Authentic Italian Tiramisu: A Taste of Italy

Tiramisu is a classic Italian dessert made with layers of espresso-dipped ladyfingers and a rich mascarpone cream, topped with a dusting of cocoa powder. It's a deliciously indulgent treat that is perfect for any occasion.


Servings: 8-10 servings

Ingredients:

  • 1 package ladyfingers

  • 6 eggs, separated

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1/4 cup Kahlua (or Marsala)

  • 16 ounces mascarpone cheese, cold

  • 1 cup espresso coffee, cooled

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • Cocoa powder, for dusting


Kitchen Utensils:

- Mixing bowls

- Electric mixer

- 9x13 inch baking dish

- Measuring cups and spoons

- Whisk

- Serving spatula


Directions:

1. In a large mixing bowl, beat the egg yolks and sugar together until thick and pale.

2. Add the mascarpone cheese to the egg yolk mixture and beat until smooth and creamy.

3. In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form.

4. Gently fold the whipped egg whites into the mascarpone mixture until well combined.

5. In a shallow dish, mix the espresso coffee and Kahlua (or Marsala) together.

6. Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture and line the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish with a single layer of soaked ladyfingers.

7. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.

8. Repeat with another layer of soaked ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone mixture.

9. Cover the tiramisu with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight, to allow the flavours to meld together.

10. Before serving, dust the top of the tiramisu with cocoa powder using a fine sieve.

11. Slice and serve the tiramisu chilled. Enjoy the creamy and decadent classic Italian dessert!
